    By helping adults to read, we help them live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. By helping adults to read, we help their children to break out of cycles of poverty. By helping adults to read, we increase the economic prosperity of Onondaga County. By helping adults to read, we help ourselves.

    LiteracyCNY provides one-to-one tutoring and small group classroom instruction to more than 500 adults in our community each year, transforming lives and strengthening our community.

    Our Mission

    To provide adults in Central New York with the literacy tools and skills that they need to be contributing, productive, and engaged members of the community. We do this by advocating for adult education, providing instruction, and partnering with other community based agencies. Improving access to adult literacy addresses inter-generational poverty and makes our community stronger.

    Our Vision

    LiteracyCNY will be a highly performing and integral component of the adult education system in Central New York, fully accountable to its community stakeholders.

    Our Values

    Respecting all community stakeholders, including students, volunteers, and colleagues;
    Stewarding the community’s investment in the agency;
    Offering high-quality student-centered instruction;
    Providing leadership and advocacy for adult literacy;
    And partnering and collaborating to strengthen the community’s adult education continuum.
