LiteracyCNY Honored at 2016 NonProfit Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — LiteracyCNY was honored today for its Outstanding Fundraising Event, SCRABBLE Mania, at the Annual Nonprofit Awards Presented by M&T Bank at the Oncenter.
“We are so pleased to receive this recognition for SCRABBLE Mania,” said Marsha L. Tait, LiteracyCNY’s Executive Director. “We have had wonderful support from the community. This year 475 people joined us at the Oncenter. It was quite a sight!” All proceeds from SCRABBLE Mania help provide adults in Central New York with the literacy tools and skills they need.
At the SCRABBLE Mania Tournament, teams of 8-10 players compete against each other to build the highest possible scoring SCRABBLE board in 20-minute rounds of play. “The teams have become more competitive each year,” Tait said. This year’s Grand Champion was the law firm Gilberti, Stinziano, Heintz & Smith, P.C.
The event includes game playing, refreshments, raffle prizes, and live entertainment from internationally acclaimed jazz musician and six-time SAMMY award winner Ronnie Leigh, accompanied by talented guitarist Marcus Curry. 93Q’s Ted and Amy returned as celebrity emcees.
Save the date for 2017 SCRABBLE Mania: Friday Feb. 3, 2017, at the Oncenter. Event details, scores and pictures from #2016SCRABBLEMania are online here: http://www.literacycny.org/scrabblemania/
